## About This Recruitment
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff, Non-Technical) and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) Examination annually to recruit Group 'C', non-gazetted, non-ministerial staff across various Ministries, Departments, and subordinate offices of the Government of India. Selected candidates are placed in Pay Level-1 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix. This is one of the most accessible central government exams, requiring only a 10th-pass qualification.
## Eligibility Criteria
- **Age limit:** MTS — 18 to 25 years; Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) — 18 to 27 years, as on the closing date
- **Age relaxation:** OBC +3 years, SC/ST +5 years, PwBD +10 years, as per Government norms
- **Educational qualification:** Matriculation (10th pass) from a recognized board — no 12th pass requirement
- **Nationality:** Indian citizen
- **Physical standards:** Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) apply only to Havaldar posts
## Exam Pattern & Syllabus
**Computer Based Examination — Session I & Session II (both mandatory)**
- Session I: Numerical Aptitude & Reasoning Ability — 40 questions, 120 marks
- Session II: General Awareness & English Language/Comprehension — 50 questions, 150 marks
**Subject-wise Detailed Syllabus**
*Numerical Aptitude:* Number systems, simplification, percentage, ratio-proportion, average, profit-loss, discount, simple/compound interest, time-work-distance, mensuration, basic algebra and geometry, data interpretation.
*Reasoning Ability:* Analogies, similarities/differences, space visualization, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision-making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, verbal/figure classification, arithmetic reasoning.
*General Awareness:* Current affairs, science, history, geography, culture, general polity, economics, and other general knowledge topics relevant at the matriculation level.
*English Language:* Basic comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms/antonyms.
## Complete Preparation Strategy
**Month 1:** Build numerical and reasoning fundamentals from NCERT Class 8-10 Maths; start a daily current affairs habit.
**Month 2:** Topic-wise practice sets; begin solving previous year SSC MTS papers under timed conditions.
**Month 3:** Full-length mock CBTs 2-3x per week; for Havaldar aspirants, begin basic physical fitness training alongside written prep; revise weak areas and static GK.

## Selection Process
Computer Based Examination → PET/PST (Havaldar posts only) → Document Verification → Final merit list.
